A day begins..

12.01 AM
I was supposed to have a design and simulation lab in the afternoon . The last experiment (Bellman Ford using Linked lists) was given a deadline. My professor as well as the TA is very specific about Linux. Whenever I run a program I was so confident about the output. It will be obviously 'segmentation fault'. In Windows it will never show such a problem and my programs(very poor) used to work for most of the cases. But net is not properly connected for the Linux platform in my system which made me quite desperate when i had to search for something. So I thought of switching to Linux. It will take a little time to get booted since my CD drive is not working properly. My roomie was also having some submission. Archies are supposed to do that. The system turned ON. It took more time than usual; may be because its winter. The temperature is about 19-20 degrees these days. Seniors told me yesterday that it will come down to some 4-8(donno..). I was working on the program(almost hopeless).
2.00 AM
I had to submit two reports for the same lab. So I  kept aside the program. If I could not submit the report I ll lose the grades for my previous expts as well. A bird in the hand is worth two in the bush - a principle I always used to follow. And I like working with Latex. The task was pretty easy. I could cut/ copy /paste from my previous assignments which were the groundwork for these expts. But still I had to do add something here and there and to collapse the report as a whole so that there is little correlation between the present and previous reports. By one hour I could manage the 'bla bla bla' matter in report.
3.00 AM
I thought the work was almost over. But the beautiful part of the story is that I couldn't spot out where I had stored the programs(I mean programs which were working). Whenever I get something I used to save a copy of the program again and again and each program was having some 15-20 copies. I tried executing each of those and got the desired ones in half an hour.It took one more hour to design the test input and to arrange the whole matter in my report.

4.30 AM
I skipped most of the prayers and went to sleep after switching off the fan. It was too cold. If I could remain awake for half an hour more I could see the sunrise. But I couldn't help since I have a class at 7.30.

Rain rain go away...

In fact I like rain very much. But after coming to this place i hate it most. I've been here since July. When I came here, it was too hot that i felt like taking bath twice or thrice a day although it was a great threat to my hair(the water quality is so good that many of my friends here managed to take bath once in a week).

Now we will come to our topic of discussion-rain. I go to class by bicycle. I don't have the guts to cycle with umbrella in one hand. So whenever there is rain I used to enjoy it(as there is no other option) to be in time for the lectures. And there were situations where i had to wash three clothes per day. But these are all minor issues which need not be given much consideration.

But yesterday it was entirely different. I woke up at around eight(too early for saturday). Since then it was raining heavily(don't know when did it start). Unlike my earlier hostel where we had rooms facing each other, here we have rooms facing courtyard. By the time I went for dinner there was about one inch water in the corridor. And along with the rain winds were bolwing very badly. I could hear the asbestos sheet making sound from the top of the water tank.

I called my home once or twice to make them aware of the situation. Earlier we had thought of going to a flute concert at 7.00 pm by an illustrious person. But I was not feeling like going out in such a bad weather. I rushed to my friend's room and she also had the same opinion. But those who went for it told me that we've missed a great event.

At around 7.40 my friend came to my room and asked me whether I had my dinner. The floor was full of water (about 1mm; although i dont have a clearcut idea of the measurement of rainfall intensity, for me this information suffices). We went to mess hall with our umbrella(its inside the hostel!) choosing a direction after considering the direction rain(and/or wind ). When we reached our mess hall we were fully drenched. We placed our umbrellas on a table and took our plates. By the time we started eating the power had gone. It was complete darkness till somebody lit a candle. In the darkness somebody came near us and searched for her pickle jar kept on the table and she was speaking something in some language assuming that we are her friends. We started laughing and spoke in our language. When power came she explained us that her friends were sitting there before we came in.

I latched my room and switched off my fan to keep myself warm. In the morning when I woke up, it has stopped raining but wind was blowing heavily. My roommate told me that so many trees fell down yesterday. I was in a dilemma whether to go to church or not. At last I thought of going in an auto from main gate after getting 100 moneys from atm. Then i asked the security at the main gate whether there are some blocks in the road to the railway station. He replied in hindi from which i could understand that there is no problem ahead.

It was already late and i rushed to the church with my Miss India. The road was very clean after such a great shower but at some slopy areas i had to dash through the ponds. It was a great experience that i could feel water reaching my face. The mass has just started when I reached.

During the mass I was looking outside to see if there are some signs of rain in which case my return would become a challenge. Anyway it was not raining when the mass ended but the wind was very strong. So I hurried to the cycle stand got my cycle and started off. After my first turn the road is really narrow. So I thought of going by the edge of the road for safety reasons. As i was moving, i could hear the horn of a mini van like thing. And i when it passed me i found that that was not a mini van but something of the sort of army truck. I was shocked i fell down from my cycle onto the road!

By God's grace nothing happened to me except that some of my muscles are paining when I'm writing this. But the basket of my cycle has changed its orientation by some 45 degrees. By the time I came back it was raining, not heavily though. And now it seems that this place is not the one I've seen yesterday. Don't know what it will be like tomorrow.

why ?

I am not a very experienced writer (will be clear if u could read some of my posts). You can take it in either of the two ways. One is that my english is not very good. Since i don't have a habit of reading books (i started reading books when i was in LKG since my parents found it easy if they could make me read; i used to disturb them a lot). But i have lost that habit almost fully by now. After coming here i don't have a habit of reading newspapers even.Of course, I know that its not going to take me anywhere.

I have been thinking of this blogging thing for the last few days. I m afraid I will have to say that this place is so bad if i compare it with that of my earlier college. This is a remote area and whenever we go out of the campus, we could see a large number of cows, goats and dogs(i hate them, as an experienced cyclist ;))

Food is also a problem. I am not used to bengali dishes. For them its excellent, but here we survive on chappathis and bread(sometimes they give us dosa). And according my friend's opinion the widest roads are inside this campus. And I would like to say that without  R my life would have been hell here. She comes to my room everyday and talks with me for about two hours. We mainly talk about the differences between our home college and this one and always feel that our college 'IS' much better than this college except for the infrastructure. We had good teachers there as well but were less in number.

Anyway I will have to stay here for two years if I am not getting any big surprises from my Lord. Hope we will get over all our difficulties soon.
